Padel tournament generator: which format fits your group?

Americano for a social night with rotating partners, Mexicano for closer games, and a fixed-pair format for groups that arrive as pairs. PadelLoop is a free padel tournament generator: pick a format in the tool and add the players, and it draws every round, rotates partners or keeps the pairs together, and keeps the standings live on your phone. Here is how the eight formats compare, so you can choose before the first ball.

FormatHow it worksRoundsPlayersShare link and big screen

Team MexicanoFixed pairs, standings decide who you meetOne at a time, built from the standingsAn even number, from 4Yes

King/Queen of the CourtWinners move up, losers move down. Last on the bottom court joins the queue.Round after round; late pairs join the queueAn even number, from 4Yes
MonradSwiss-style: nobody is knocked out, and everyone is ranked in a few rounds.1 round for 2 to 3 pairs, 2 for 4, 3 for 5 to 8, 4 for 9 to 16, 5 for 17 to 32An even number, from 4No
Team AmericanoBring your own partner. Fixed pairs, and the whole schedule is drawn before you start.Every pair meets every other once, drawn at the startAn even number, from 4Yes

Rotating partners suit a social evening where people want to play with everyone. Fixed pairs suit a group that arrives as pairs, or a night that should end with a ranking. Each format name links to its own page with the rules and a worked example.

How many players and courts do you need?

Four players fill a court, and the generator handles up to 12 courts. When the players do not fill the courts exactly, the rotating formats sit the extras out in turn, so everyone rests about as often. The table shows the most common group sizes:

PlayersCourtsPlaying each roundSitting out each roundAmericano rounds
82807
102829
12312011
14312212
16416012
20520012
24624012

Fewer courts than in the table also works: more players sit out each round, and the rotation keeps it fair. How long the evening takes depends on the points per match, and the padel planner works it out before you book the courts.

How do you set up a padel tournament?

The padel tournament generator asks for five things, in this order:

  1. Pick a format in the tool. Not sure which? The table above compares them.
  2. Set the courts and points. Choose 1 to 12 courts and 8 to 48 points per match. Round robin and Monrad use a match format with games and sets instead, and King/Queen of the Court records a free result per court.
  3. Add the players. Type the names one by one, or paste the whole list at once.
  4. Choose the extras if you want them. Americano, Mexicano, Mixicano, Team Mexicano and Team Americano can use win by two or free scoring for timed rounds, a round clock, and a final round for the top four.
  5. Start, and enter the scores from your phone as the matches finish. In the formats with a share link, one link and the big screen keep everyone up to date.

Scoring a single final rather than a whole evening? The padel scoreboard counts games, sets and tie-breaks point by point. Both tools are on the padel tools page.

Padel tournament generator: common questions

Is the padel tournament generator free?

Yes. The padel tournament generator is free during early access, every format included, with no app and no account needed. An account only saves tournaments across devices. Club adds a page for centers and two beta tools; nothing in the generator is locked.

Can I run a tournament with an odd number of players?

Yes, as an Americano or a Mexicano: the players who do not fit on a court sit out in turn, spread evenly over the evening. A Mixicano needs as many men as women, and Team Mexicano, Round robin, King/Queen of the Court, Monrad and Team Americano need an even number, because the pairs stay together all night.

Which padel format suits 12 players?

An Americano is the classic pick for 12 players: three full courts, 11 rounds, everyone partners everyone once and nobody sits out, about 2 hours 45 at 24 points or 2 hours at 16. If the 12 arrive as six pairs, Team Americano plays all 15 matches in 5 rounds on three courts.

How long does a padel tournament take?

In an Americano or Mexicano, about 15 minutes per round at 24 points, changeovers included, so 90 minutes fits six rounds, and about 11 minutes at 16 points. A round robin or Monrad depends on the match format, from about 15 minutes a match to 90. The padel planner works it out before you book.

Do the players need an account or an app?

No. Only the organizer uses the tool, in a browser, and the players need nothing at all. In the formats with a share link they follow the live table from one link on their own phones, without installing anything or signing in. The organizer can sign in to save tournaments, but it is optional.
